Coastal Patio Furniture was started to offer a better option, one rooted in craftsmanship, restoration, and honesty.
Coastal Patio Furniture didn’t start in Virginia. It started years ago in St. Petersburg, Florida, when I was a child spending time at my Aunt Deb’s outdoor furniture repair shop. She owned and operated one of the top outdoor furniture repair companies in the Tampa Bay area, and some of my earliest memories are from being there with her.
I can still remember the smell. Fresh vinyl from new straps and slings has a scent that’s hard to describe unless you’ve experienced it. It smelled like a brand-new pool. Like summertime. Like something being brought back to life. That smell stayed with me long before I ever understood why.
As I got older, I spent a few summers working in her shop, learning the trade and earning money along the way. At the time, it was just a job. Looking back, it was the foundation for everything that came next.
As I grew older, I followed another childhood dream of becoming a firefighter. I was hired by the City of Richmond, Virginia, moved nearly 200 miles away from Pennsylvania, and brought my high school sweetheart with me. It was a dream come true. Firefighting gave me structure, pride, and purpose. Like many firefighters, once I adjusted to the schedule, I picked up side jobs on my days off. Over the years, I worked in at least ten different occupations, searching for the right fit. Something always felt missing.
While pursuing the idea of starting a business, memories from my childhood in Florida kept resurfacing. One day, it hit me like a brick—outdoor furniture repair. I began researching competition and demand and quickly noticed something surprising. There were very few companies offering professional outdoor furniture repair and restoration services, and most people didn’t even realize repair was even an option.
Furniture was being thrown away, not because it couldn’t be saved, but because no one told them it could.
That realization became the foundation of Coastal Patio Furniture.
It has been nine years since Coastal Patio Furniture was started and four years since transitioning into the business full-time. Since then, we’ve continued to grow year over year, serving both residential and commercial clients throughout Virginia and beyond.
More importantly, we’ve continued to educate.
Professional outdoor furniture repair and restoration often costs 50–70% less than purchasing new, comparable-quality furniture. Frames can be refinished, slings and straps can be replaced, and furniture can be restored to look and function like new again.
